Paul Mahoney

Artwork on display at Gallery Beneath

Like many contemporary artists Paul initially trained and worked as a sign writer, eventually running his own businesses in Victor Harbor & Port Douglas.

As a career, sign making and graphic design have provided in forming an intimate relationship with paint and colour. It’s demand for large-scale pictorials and signage have given Paul the confidence for painting large canvases with solid design and brush skills.

He has been painting since 2012

His unique style is instantly recognisable by those familiar with his work. Trademark heavily worked canvases, multi-layered, scratched and cracked surface’s. Working in oils his abstracted palette knife approach allows him the freedom to continually explore differing surface tensions and to create a three dimensional representation of the subject matter.

His recent works are a salute to Australia’s classic cars.
