John Pointon
With a glittering painting career spanning more than 40 years John Pointon’s artistic style continues to set him apart from the pack. His work displays an attention to detail that gives his two dimensional subjects which vary from broad landscapes to human subjects a distinct three-dimensional quality.
John was born in Sydney in 1936 grew up in Bondi and educated at Trinity Grammar School. Like many artists with artistic ability he entered advertising as a career, but continued to pursue his passion for painting privately.
Encouraged by many awards and sales in the regional exhibitions he entered during those years John became a full-time professional artist in 1969. Classified as a traditional painter his preferred medium is oils with the palette knife his favourite method of application.
His primary interest is the effect of light on colour and what can be achieved to create a luminosity giving an added dimension to the work. “I want people to feel they can step into one of my paintings and that’s exactly the effect I aim for – like creating another dimension solely through the use of colour."
From 1971, John has had many very successful solo exhibitions all around Australia. John has been featured in a number of publications and has had limited edition prints made of some of his works.
